Union of Concerned Scientists

Union Of Concerned Scientists: Citizens and Scientists for Environmental Solutions (UCS), is a “science-based nonprofit working for a healthy environment and a safer world” (About us.. ucsusa.org).  Through their efforts 28 states now have a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS), which requires electric utilities to produce a minimum indicated amount of electricity using renewable sources.  This does not solve any problems but is a good start in getting states to take energy issues seriously.  By the year 2030 UCS is hoping to achieve multiple changes within the renewable energy field such as; save consumers $95.5 billion by 2030 in their electricity and natural gas bills, create 297,000 new green jobs, produce $263.4 billion in new capital investment, and take the equivalent of 45.3 million cars off the road through reducing the global warming pollution from power plants (About us.. ucsusa.org).
